IFBA Foundations in Coaching

Establishing excellence in the art of coaching to level-up your business

If you’re a gym owner or personal trainer, this detailed introduction to a successful coaching approach brings consistency, quality, and credibility to your operation.

Consisting of three elements – online theory, online exams, and an in-person one-day practical workshop – the course provides a technical foundation and goes on to focus on the art of outstanding session management.

Outline of the Course

Introduction

You’ll identify the qualities of a great coach and learn the difference between the three main training models. You’ll discover why Small Group Personal Training is the primary offering for the Modern Training Gym.

Module 1: Coaching the Standard

You’ll be introduced to the Training Manifesto, the methods of the progression-regression system and the fundamental movement patterns. You’ll also adapt a Small Group Personal Training session for individuals.

Module 2: Communicating the Standard

You’ll learn the importance of both verbal and non-verbal communication, such as describing the six key points of ‘owning the session’. You’ll also get tips on using coaching cues, getting members to ‘buy-in’ to the session and how to deliver feedback.

Module 3: Delivering the Standard

You’ll get insights into coaching in the ‘real world’, like how to structure and deliver the warm-up, performing testing in a Small Group Personal Training session and the key coaching points in Team Training.

Knowledge you’ll gain from this course:

Taking control

You’ll master the big-picture skills, like session management and flow, delivering results and overseeing the member journey.

Improving and adapting

You’ll learn how to define the big stuff: goals, strategies and business plans as well as how to master the crucial day-to-day detail.

Your role as communicator

You’ll understand the value of communication and delivery and how they can hugely enhance the member experience.

From theory to the real-world

You’ll understand the essential principles of programming and learn how to deliver them effectively in practice.
